Can you take an antihistamine while taking cold medicine?

Can i take an antihistamine like Claritin while taking a cold medicine like DayQuil? Will that be effective? I think i have allergies but it could be the common cold too I'm not sure all i know is my nose is running and i have a sore throat and my eyes are really irritated and i want it to go away.
