How secure is fingerprint recognition on my new laptop?

I recently bought a new HP laptop which has fingerprint recognition for passwords and logins. I have set up most of my main usernames and passwords on this function and I'm loving it because logins only take as long as a finger swipe. My only concern here how secure is that function on the laptop - theoretically, if someone can access it they would have access to a lot of important login info. On the flip side, I think I might be more secure than usual from viruses that are monitoring keystrokes as I am no longer typing out lots of usernames and passwords. Any experts out there with knowledge on this issue? Thanks.
