Spring time allergies remedy?

Hello! I have spring allergies and I know antihistamines help but do you have to take one every single day or does the medicine stay in your body to block the allergies? It just seems like alot of medicine to take. I live in southern California, does anyone know when the pollen in the air will be gone?
